MIKE PATTERSON

Mike Patterson starting playing tennis at the age of 9 years old. He soon started playing tournaments in the Fresno area and more importantly, began spending his summers playing in junior club league. The hours spent playing tennis and racquetball during all those summers and later in high school at Hoover High School left him with a dormant skill set that would prove ideal for pickleball. Mike’s tennis career ended after high school when the college he chose to attend didn’t have a tennis team. At the California Maritime Academy in 1989, he switched to soccer and played Division 3 soccer there for three years. He continued playing and coaching soccer for the next 25 years in local men’s leagues and pick-up games all over SLO county.

Mike began playing pickleball in early 2017 and quickly found that he was pretty good at it. He won a silver medal at nationals that year and has become a regular in the California pickleball community; often traveling to Concord, Sacramento, Simi Valley and San Diego to train and play with the best players in the state. Early in 2018, Mike started wondering if he could make a living teaching others the sport that he had fallen in love with. He decided to try in June of 2018 and earned his IPTPA teaching certificate. Mike’s Pickleball teaching philosophy is to encourage students to embrace the soft game. “Keep your dinks and drop shots unattackable and success will follow!”
